Joseph P. Kittredge

Attorney at Law

Joe is a founding partner at Rafanelli Kittredge and a well-respected trial attorney. He has litigated hundreds of cases in state and federal courts in Massachusetts as well as New Hampshire and Rhode Island.  He has appeared before the Massachusetts Appeals Court, Supreme Judicial Court, and the United States Federal Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. In addition, he has represented clients before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and Civil Service Commission.

Joe devotes his time advocating for clients in courtrooms throughout Massachusetts as well as being engaged by other attorneys to handle the litigation stage of their case. He represents a large segment of the Massachusetts law enforcement community in both their professional and private lives. As one of the leading civil rights defense attorneys in Massachusetts, he is a vigorous advocate protecting the professional careers of his clients.  When a member of the law enforcement community needs an attorney for their family or friends, Joe is retained to provide the same passionate representation.

Graduated 1986, Juris Doctor

Graduated 1982, B.S. in Public Administration & Economics

He has secured significant monetary resolutions in personal injury cases involving the negligence of others.  Professionals utilize his skill to negotiate corporate executive compensation packages and severance agreements. Business owners rely on Joe’s knowledge for their purchase or sale of businesses and to provide legal advice in their daily operations.  Joe is also a trained mediator and applies his vast litigation experience to help parties resolve disputes through mediation.

Before founding Rafanelli Kittredge, Joe was an associate at the Law Offices of Timothy Burke where he began his trial career defending police officers in civil rights cases. He is a graduate of New England Law School and Bryant University. He is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, Middlesex West Chamber of Commerce, President of his homeowners association, and a past Director of Community Education Youth Basketball.

Being on the receiving end of a massive legal document that defines your job and employment terms is a daunting process. Most people – me included – go into these reviews assuming that these agreements aren’t there to protect them. Joe picked out the key risk areas with and for me and argued my cause for months until the agreement was more than fair to me. He knows which battles to pick and which ones to let go. As it turned out, I had the best employment agreement of my team. When the next agreement came around with a new owner, I was ahead of the game and in a much better starting position. Joe handled that one as well. He listens and then takes on the tough points in a professional way that is respected by all. I greatly value his perspective and experience.
